Tencent Cloud EdgeOne: Bringing Protection and Performance Together

In a move to embrace digital transformation and benefit from the evolving digital economy, organisations from almost all sectors are adopting the cloud to secure their future. Cloud computing is undoubtedly magnificent for its data protection and security, automation, fast, and various other services but simultaneously, marked by colossal risk as security, connectivity, network latency, and compliance challenges can impede cloud operations. Hence, organisations hunt for third-party offerings that could leverage their investment, such as time, finance, and human effort, rendered to the cloud.

With flagship productions like QQ and WeChat, Tencent Cloud, a prominent internet company from mainland China, is one such entity specialising in cloud computing, database, security, storage and CDN services to make your cloud experience extraordinary. Acknowledging the managerial concerns of businesses, Tencent Cloud recently launched its upgraded one-stop platform, Tencent Cloud EdgeOne. Based on more than 28,000 global edge nodes operating across various regions and 20 years of accumulated experience, Tencent Cloud EdgeOne is well-known for its robust security and acceleration services to diverse industries, including gaming, streaming, e-commerce, print and electronic media and a lot more.

Tommy Li, Vice President of Tencent Cloud, officially announced the release of Tencent Cloud EdgeOne in an inauguration ceremony, also virtualised through a webinar. While summarising the gist of the latest offering in an acronym- ACROSS: Advanced technology; Extensive Connectivity; Real-time service; Optimisation of data; Smart application, and Security protection, Tommy underlined that by integrating our advanced security technology into our RT-ONE network, Tencent Cloud EdgeOne ensures low latency, reliable services, and in-depth security mechanisms.

Addressing the concerns of the gaming industry, Tencent Cloud devised a distributed strategy of preloading, providing rate limiting, and web and DDoS attack protection. This approach significantly helped games to secure 100 per cent downloads without interruption.

Baal Feng, General Manager of Global DevOps at Tencent Games, provided further insights on the gaming industry. “The global gaming market enjoys an enormous potential and is expanding rapidly. As more opportunities arise, so do the challenges, such as addressing the extremely high demands for download speed and latency,” said Feng. Baal added that the download speed and overall user experience profoundly rely on the network quality- the domain that Tencent Cloud EdgeOne has already mastered.

Addressing the fundamental aspect of cloud security, Eric Cheng, General Manager of Tencent Cloud Security, stressed the unified, swift, reliable and integrated security apparatus incorporated with Tencent Cloud EdgeOne. “A secured platform that can detect and defend against attacks earlier, mitigating malicious traffic right at the edges, before they reach our data centre,” Eric claimed about the robustness of the new product.

While Tencent Cloud EdgeOne carries many advantages, a few notable ones include:

  • Moving the services edge nodes closer to end-users, providing layer-3 (Network), layer-4 (Transport), and layer-7 (Application) protection, as well as accelerating services to the global market. It further assures a consolidated dashboard to save time and minimise configuration formalities.
  • Blending with Domain Name System (DNS) enables Tencent Cloud EdgeOne to stabilise DNS resolution and reduce the latency for still and in-motion data. Speedy and smooth traffic between Tencent Cloud EdgeOne and the origin server is made possible through dedicated interconnections.
  • Provided the edge nodes are installed close to end-users, the malicious request can easily be hunted and mitigated before they strike the application services. Integrated security features, including DDoS protection, web firewall protection, bot management and behaviour analysis, and much more, provide additional strength to Tencent Cloud EdgeOne.

Concluding the launching ceremony, the senior leadership of Tencent Cloud aimed to continue exporting high-level security tools, providing global partners with safe, stable, rapid, and professional edge-integrated security services to assist enterprises in their digital expedition.
