Malaysia Digital Expo Aims to Put Malaysia in the Eyes of the Digital World

We are now a generation living in a post-pandemic world, where digital transformation and technological innovations are accelerating. It appears that the Southeast Asia region is positioned to become the world’s technology hub, with countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam rapidly advancing to claim the title of the next digital hub.

This has spurred other countries to not lag behind in the current tech race, as falling behind could lead to missing out on substantial investments that might, in turn, hinder a country’s economic growth. Such a situation is undesirable, particularly when many countries are still recovering from the recent global pandemic.

To that end, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has organised the Malaysian Digital Expo 2023 (MDX), a six-week digital empowerment platform aiming to bring together the best of Malaysia’s digital economy and connect digital experts, leaders, and enthusiasts.

The event was officially launched by Malaysia’s Minister of Digital Communications, YB Fahmi Fadzil. He encouraged digital industry players and media to actively participate in all MDX 2023 events to boost its exposure and raise awareness of Malaysia’s current digital growth.

The six-week digital extravaganza will showcase a diverse array of events and activities such as workshops, expos, conferences, exhibitions, and networking before concluding with The Grand Finale, which will be from the 6th until the 8th of November and will have two distinguished figures who will grace the grand event as its marquee speakers; YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia and Zack Kass, the mind behind the disruptive generative-AI tool, ChatGPT.

In addition, the speaker line-up for MDX 2023 consists of renowned industry leaders such as Ricky Kapur, Head of APAC of Zoom, Melvin Ooi, CEO of YTL-Sea Digital Bank Project, Eric Chang, Co-founder & Group CEO of Carsome, Dr Raymond Choy, Co-Founder & CEO of DOC2US and Hiroyuki Kato, Director of Japan Peppol Authority, Government of Japan.

Additionally, during the press conference, YB Fahmi Fadzil stated that the media will be informed of any milestones, ventures or investments made throughout the event. He also encourages parents around Klang Valley and Kuala Lumpur to take their children to the #MYDIGITALMAKER Fair at Quill City Mall, from 6th to 8th October, as it provides an opportunity for them to gain early exposure to Malaysia’s digital economy and industry such as programming, coding, web development and many more. He hopes that MDX can be the catalyst that attracts and encourages younger generations to learn more about the digital economy and industry.

YB Fahmi Fadzil ended the press conference by sharing the news of his trip to Vietnam, where he attended the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) conference. At AMRI, he mentioned that most of the ASEAN countries are currently speaking about greater collaboration and cooperation in the field of digital economy which help contribute to ASEAN countries’ digital economy and transformation. So, in an effort to expose Malaysians to the ongoing digital transformation, he encourages and invites both Malaysians and visitors from other countries to visit and participate in the MDX events that are happening across Malaysia.
