Key Announcements From VeeamON 2025

Backup data is no longer just insurance for disaster or ransomware recovery – it is now a key part of intelligence infrastructure. At its annual VeeamON 2025 Conference, Veeam® Software, unveiled new capabilities that enable AI systems to securely access and utilise data stored in Veeam repositories. Powered by support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard developed by Anthropic, Veeam is enabling broad, plug-and-play compatibility with any compliant AI system, allowing companies to securely access and utilise data stored in Veeam repositories.

This was announced alongside other key announcements at VeeamON 2025, listed below:

1. Veeam Unveiled the Industry’s First Data Resilience Maturity Model (DRMM)

  • Veeam has introduced the first industry-backed, research-driven DRMM frameworkthat gives organisations a way to objectively assess and systematically improve their data resilience posture.
  • The new framework empowers organisations to objectively assess their true resilience posture and take decisive, strategic action to close the gap between perception and reality to ensure their data is resilient in the face of growing cyber-attacks and outages.
  • Alongside that, a joint DRMM research by Veeam and McKinsey highlighted key findings like:
    • 74% of organisations fall short of best practices, operating at the two lowest levels of maturity.
    • Organisations at the highest maturity level (the Best-in-Class horizon) recover from outages 7 times, experience 3 times less downtime, and suffer 4 times less data loss than their peers.
    • Alarmingly, over 30% of CIOs in the least resilient companies mistakenly believe their data resilience capabilities are better than they actually are, exposing their businesses to potential failure.

2. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft Entra ID Launched

  • Veeam is extending its trusted data resilience capabilities into the identity layer of cybersecurity with a SaaS-based backup solution for Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) – a critical, highly targeted component of enterprise infrastructure.
  • With Entra ID facing 600+ million attacks daily, protecting digital identity is now essential. Veeam is stepping in with a pre-hardened, enterprise-ready, and fully managed solution to safeguard this layer.

3. Veeam’s First Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report Published

  • Veeam announced the release of its first ESG Report, showcasing its commitment to inclusively creating a sustainable future while maintaining the highest standards of trust and governance.
  • The report highlighted key areas for Veeam’s ESG efforts in 2023–2024 focused on:
    • Environmental sustainability: e-waste recycling, emissions reduction, LEED-certified offices
    • Social impact: employee volunteering, diversity initiatives, and benefits
    • Governance: cybersecurity, AI policy, and compliance oversight

The VeeamON conference took place for the first time in San Diego (CA) from April 21 to April 23 this year.
