DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator and GLBB, a Japanese Internet Service Provider, today announced a partnership to provide GLBB’s customers access to the global DE-CIX interconnection ecosystem. The agreement allows customers of GLBB Japan to benefit from the data centre and carrier neutral DE-CIX interconnection platform, which offers peering, cloud connectivity and other enterprise-grade interconnection services.
As part of the partnership, GLBB customers in Japan can now connect to the DE-CIX Cloud Exchanges in Tokyo and Osaka, as well as the distributed DE-CIX ASEAN interconnection platform. This platform provides direct access to over 100 Southeast Asian networks, including major Malaysian Internet and cloud service providers.
DE-CIX and GLBB Japan: Unlocking Greater Interconnectivity and Opportunities for Malaysia
From designing to operating, Tokyo-based GLBB provides one-stop Internet services. Now, in partnership with DE-CIX, the ISP is further expanding its portfolio. Wherever networks become more interconnected, it unlocks more potential for users. This collaboration brings exciting advancements to the Malaysian market, enabling Japanese companies to interconnect with Malaysian networks, and enabling Malaysian businesses and enterprises to benefit from even more diversity on the exchange. With this partnership, GLBB’s customers gain access to DE-CIX’s global ecosystem, essentially unlocking significant benefits for Malaysian businesses. Reduced latency accelerates applications, improves user experiences and creates a robust foundation for the AI-driven solutions critical to Malaysia’s growing digital economy. As Malaysia strives to become a regional digital hub, such advanced connectivity is vital to driving innovation and competitiveness.
“We are delighted that GLBB Japan is now part of DE-CIX’s 30-year-long success story,” says Mareike Jacobshagen, Head of Global Business Partner Program at DE-CIX. “This agreement gives GLBB’s customers low-latency access to networks across multiple Southeast Asian markets and carries them directly to the centre of Europe, with access to well over a thousand local, regional and international networks at DE-CIX Frankfurt.”
“DE-CIX’s neutral and open interconnection ecosystem is of utmost interest for us and our customers,” says Craig Watson, CEO at GLBB Japan. “Enterprises benefit not only from direct connections to over 1200 networks in Frankfurt, Singapore, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Manila, but also from direct, protected and low-latency access to additional hyperscaler onramps in Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.”
DE-CIX in Frankfurt: Unlocking Opportunities for Malaysia with World-Class Connectivity
In Malaysia, DE-CIX’s growing presence is transforming the digital connectivity landscape. This expansion aligns with Malaysia’s ambitions to become a leading digital hub under initiatives like MyDIGITAL and the National Digital Network (JENDELA). By leveraging DE-CIX’s global infrastructure, local businesses can improve latency, enhance cloud adoption and scale their operations to meet the demands of an increasingly digital economy, ensuring Malaysia remains competitive in the global market. Malaysian businesses now have the opportunity to tap into this extensive ecosystem through DE-CIX’s Southeast Asian partnerships. For example, Penang IX (PIX) powered by DE-CIX and DE-CIX Jakarta went live in 2024, offering the Southeast Asian market new opportunities on the DE-CIX Asia platform.
DE-CIX offers its interconnection services in close to 60 locations in Europe, Africa, North and South America, the Middle East and Asia. Accessible from data centres in over 600 cities world-wide, DE-CIX interconnects thousands of network operators (carriers), ISPs, content providers and enterprise networks from more than 100 countries and offers peering, cloud and other interconnection services. DE-CIX in Frankfurt, Germany, is one of the largest IXs in the world, with a data volume of almost 40 Exabytes per year (as of 2023) and close to 1100 connected networks. In Southeast Asia, DE-CIX fosters partnerships in key markets to keep the ecosystem on the growth trajectory.
