DNB Leads Digital Transformation of Malaysian Manufacturing with 5G, AI
DNB Hosts Event That Promotes Adoption of Digital Solutions
Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), in collaboration with China Mobile International, ZTE, and Ericsson, and with the support of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), hosted the “Connected Industries Day: Transforming Manufacturing with 5G and AI” workshop. This event, the third in its series, aimed to promote the adoption of digital solutions among Malaysian manufacturers in the Southern region, particularly in Johor.
Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton, the workshop was inaugurated by the Minister of Digital, Yang Berhormat Tuan Gobind Singh Deo. The full-day session saw participation from representatives of the manufacturing and technology industries, as well as state and federal government entities.
The event provided a vital platform for industry leaders, domain experts, and stakeholders to shape the future of manufacturing through interactive sessions and thoughtful discussions. Attendees explored the multifaceted impact of 5G across various manufacturing domains, with global case studies of the 5G Factory and examples of 5G solution deployments aimed at improving operational efficiency.
DNB Highlights Need for Digital Transformation in Manufacturing
In his address, YB Gobind emphasised the importance of transforming the manufacturing sector in the region through digitalization, automation, Artificial Intelligence, and 5G technology.
He stated: “As an important hub for digitalisation in the country, with 13 data centre facilities across more than 1.65 million square feet of land mass, Johor is poised to attract billions of ringgit in foreign investment. To fully leverage this development, it is crucial for enterprises in the state to embrace 5G use cases and digital solutions.”
DNB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azman Ismail also spoke at the event, highlighting that DNB had successfully deployed a world-class 5G infrastructure backbone, covering more than 80% of Malaysia’s populated areas, a full year ahead of schedule.
He said: “Our 5G network is acclaimed as one of the fastest and most consistent in the world by the global web testing and network diagnostics company, Ookla. DNB has also received multiple awards from OpenSignal, Global Telecom Awards, and FutureNet for performance and innovation, highlighting the future-readiness of our network for 5GAdvanced technology.
“As we progress towards a new, competitive, dual-network landscape, DNB remains committed to supporting the Government’s digital agenda by promoting 5G adoption to spur economic activity and transform the way Malaysians live, learn, work, and play,” he added.
Datuk Azman also extended gratitude to FMM, key partners, and solution providers for their collaborative efforts in making the event a success.
The event also featured the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DNB and KPJ Healthcare Bhd, a subsidiary of Johor Corporation (JCorp). The collaboration seeks to explore ways to leverage 5G digital technology to improve healthcare services, enhance operational efficiency, and provide better patient outcomes.
Separately, DNB organised an engagement with mayors and city councillors from municipalities in the region to explore opportunities in assisting their transformation into smart cities. This engagement is part of the build-up to the Smart City Expo 2025 planned for the end of next year, in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship.
