Converge Taps Supermicro to Build New Data Centres in the Philippines
Green, Modern Data Centres Planned in Laguna, Pampanga, and Caloocan
Converge ICT Solutions Inc., one of the Philippinesâ leading fibre broadband and technology companies, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with U.S.-based Super Micro Computer Inc., a total IT solutions provider for AI, Cloud, Storage, and 5G/Edge, to jointly establish three Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered, green data centres in the Philippines.
Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO at and Co-Founder of Converge, sealed the partnership with a handshake with Wally Liaw, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of Supermicro in Taiwan.
âWe are thrilled to be in close collaboration with Supermicro in establishing the first cutting-edge, AI-ready data centers in the country,â Uy said.
He added, âAside from being energy saving with its liquid cooling technology, Supermicroâs servers provide exceptional AI computing capabilities and intensive deep learning tasks that will allow us to support and deploy many AI applications.â
Supermicro intends to develop Total IT Rack-scale liquid-cooled solutions, leveraging advanced NVIDIA Graphic Processing Units (GPUs), for Convergeâs upcoming data centres.
Uy announced earlier that the company plans to start constructing three data centres this year in Pampanga, Laguna, and Caloocan.
Soon-to-Rise Converge Data Centres Will Be Modern and Future-Proof
Through the collaboration with Super Micro, all three data centre will be constructed according to Supermicroâs future-ready design and input. The same MOU governs the deployment of AI-driven servers in these data centers to support generative AI applications.
Converge and Supermicro have also identified the AI applications they may develop, which include the National Large Language Model (LLM), Smart Manufacturing for Industry 4.0, Deep Learning/Machine Learning, and Video Generator, to name a few.
Additionally, Converge, in a bid to infuse cutting-edge technology into its data centres, plans to adapt Supermicroâs liquid cooling solutions in its servers that will significantly reduce power consumption, resulting in lower overall data center cost and less impact on the environment.
âThese high-performing servers can handle immense AI and Machine Learning workloads but with the more efficient liquid cooling solution provided by Super Micro, the heat by-product will be controlled, reducing power consumption. We want to maintain our data centerâs energy efficiency, so this is geared towards that,â Uy noted.
Data centre servers that deploy liquid-cooling technology can significantly lower the overall power consumption of a power facility by up to 40 percent, according to Supermicro.
Supermicro reduces electricity demands at both the server and rack levels, enhancing performance and reducing costs.
Supermicro is a global technology leader that delivers first-to-market innovation for Enterprise, Cloud, AI, Metaverse, and 5G Telco/Edge IT Infrastructure. It is a Rack-Scale Total IT Solutions provider that designs and builds an environmentally friendly and energy-saving portfolio of servers, storage systems, switches, and software, along with global support services.
