Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association Launches Landmark Report on Malaysia’s Data Centre Sector
Highlighting the Broad-Based Benefits That Data Centres Are Delivering to Malaysiansâfrom Sustained, High-Value Job Creation Across a Range of Skilled Functions to Accelerating National Economic Growth
The Asia Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) has launched a landmark report by KPMG detailing the economic contribution of Malaysia’s data centre sector. The report highlights the industry’s central role in supporting Malaysia’s digital futureâfrom enabling enterprise digital transformation and advancing national AI ambitions, to delivering broad-based economic growth and high-value employment opportunities.
Commissioned by APDCA, the independent study finds that the data centre sector contributed USD $1.4 billion to Malaysiaâs total economic output in 2024, supporting over 4,400 jobs across the economy. By 2030, this is projected to grow to approximately USD $34 billion in output and 30,900 jobs. The report provides the most comprehensive view to date of the sector’s direct, indirect, and induced impacts, with every direct job in the industry supporting an additional 3.2 jobs elsewhere in the economy.
