Alibaba Cloud Extends Expert Help to Shiseido China on AI-Driven DRUNKGPT

Alibaba Cloud’s Generative AI Supports Shiseido’s Drunk Elephant Enhanced Customer Engagement Experience in the Chinese Mainland

Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone, said its proprietary large language model, Qwen, has been deployed to the application of Shiseido’s Drunk Elephant’s new DRUNKGPT technology for enhanced customer interaction in China, responding to customer inquiries from product recommendations to skincare tips with more nuanced and personalised responses.

Drunk Elephant, acquired by Shiseido in 2019, along with Shiseido China’s Digital Transformation Office, partnered with Alibaba Cloud to develop a unique and interactive consumer application. This initiative aims to deliver a richer brand experience by offering innovative digital engagement opportunities. At its core is a 24/7 Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered skincare assistant designed to address consumer skincare concerns and provide personalised advice.

Yosano Masahiro, Head of Solution Architect for Japan at Alibaba Cloud, said: “We have seen growing demand from customers across sectors, especially in retail, exploring opportunities in the generative AI area. We are excited to offer our full stack of AI offerings from infrastructure, various AI models, to tools and services for AI application development, supporting them to better capitalise on the booming AI trend.”

Andy Cai, Brand Director at Drunk Elephant China, said: “At Drunk Elephant, we are committed to pioneering retail innovation to offer a unique shopping experience for our customers. We are pleased to tap into the transformative power of Alibaba Cloud’s AI to bring skincare retailing to another level. We believe that this collaboration with Alibaba Cloud will help us further grow our brand value and better engage with our tech-savvy young consumers.”

Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen Is the Core of DRUNKGPT

By tapping into Qwen-max, Alibaba Cloud’s latest foundation model with hundreds of billions of parameters, Drunk Elephant has developed its own customer chatbot, named DRUNKGPT. This chatbot is designed to serve as a fresh customer engagement platform, aiming to deliver brand philosophy and address customers’ inquiries regarding skincare issues.

To further enhance the response’s accuracy and relevancy, DRUNKGPT was further trained on the brand‘s knowledge database and optimised with Alibaba Cloud’s various AI services, including SFT (Supervised Fine-tuning), RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation), vector recall, and multi-agent framework. This digital initiative will also be integrated with Drunk Elephant’s offline launch events in China, amplifying brand awareness for Drunk Elephant and promoting its ingredient elimination philosophy within the Chinese market.

Chinese consumers can now access the “Drunk Moment” page within Drunk Elephant’s mini-program. This page features DRUNKGPT which users can interact with through text or voice input. The chatbot provides real-time responses in both text and voice formats, further enhancing consumer engagement. Alibaba Cloud’s automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS) technologies power the voice interaction capabilities.

Shiseido’s Trusted Cloud

Since 2016, Alibaba Cloud has served as Shiseido’s trusted cloud service provider in China, delivering robust solutions including cloud-native applications, edge computing, and security services to support the leading retailer’s business growth. This strengthened partnership underscores the shared commitment of both organisations to enriching lives through beauty and culture, empowered by advanced technologies such as cloud computing and AI.
