A Lunch to Remember With SAS Analytics

On February 28th, 2023, SAS, the dominant power in analytics, convened a media luncheon to explore the role of data analytics in the emerging digital economy in Malaysia. The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur staged the event in their eatery, The Brasserie. SAS held the luncheon to show appreciation to the AOPG team and other publishing teams for all of their hard work in 2022.

The luncheon was sponsored by Queenie Wong, who is the SAS Director for Customer Advisory in Malaysia. At this briefing, SAS provided an overview of its operations in Malaysia, its primary areas of emphasis, the hurdles it has encountered in the Malaysian business community, and the ways in which it is assisting local companies on their analytics journey.

The participants agreed that, given the current economic climate, it is more crucial than ever to take a data-driven approach and make use of data analytics than ever before. Businesses, especially in trying times, may benefit from embracing data and data analytics because it makes them more nimble and creative. Businesses in Malaysia need to be data-driven since the country is striving to grow its digital economy, which is projected to reach USD $35 billion by 2025.

At the luncheon, Queenie highlighted that its SAS Viya platform is now accessible through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. Data mining, machine-learning, and analytics for deploying models are all available on the platform. It’s accessible in a wide variety of languages and helps with both short- and long-term integration. Users of various skill levels may take use of SAS Viya’s machine-learning features to boost productivity and streamline communication.

Support for both SAS and open-source languages like Python and R makes it possible for SAS Viya to increase access to analytics throughout an organisation. To ensure that people of varying technical abilities can benefit from state-of-the-art AI, the platform provides programming as well as low- or no-code alternatives in a unified visual interface. Users will have access to SAS Visual Analytics, SAS Visual Statistics, SAS Visual Data Mining and Machine Learning, and SAS Model Management with the release of SAS Viya on Microsoft Azure.

IDC predicts that by 2024, public cloud installations of analytics software will equal on-premises deployments. By making SAS Viya available on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, SAS has taken a major step towards expanding the reach of its analytics. The world’s analytics, IT, and business communities may anticipate substantial gains in productivity as a result.

Users of the SAS Viya range from line workers and executives to data scientists and business analysts. They are dispersed geographically and professionally but they all stand to gain access to SAS Communities and the knowledge of their fellow SAS users and industry professionals.

The purpose of SAS’s media luncheon was twofold: To introduce the company to the industry’s writers and journalists and to shed light on the role of data analytics in Malaysia’s emerging digital economy. “By employing data and data analytics, firms may be more adaptable and imaginative, particularly during hard times,” as Queenie put it.
